Doomscroll Series

Doomscroll Series is an image made up of six mixed-media digital prints. It’s a self-portrait exploring memory and mental health in the context of screen time. Every day, I scroll through Instagram, swiping past endless carousels of content curated specifically for me based on my past interactions. But what do I actually learn? What do I gain? To create this piece, I screenshotted every Instagram Reel I saw during a single “scroll session.” I then layered these screenshots in Photoshop to form a new image. In the process, most of the individual screenshots became obscured or lost, resulting in a chaotic, fragmented digital collage. These images represent the “memories” I take away from my time scrolling—a mix of fleeting moments I might find funny or interesting, but mostly just slop. Slop that I can’t seem to get enough of. The repetitive elements in the piece emphasize the addictive and banal nature of screen use and the mental fog it creates.
